I’ve really enjoyed reading Karla’s tribute to the life of Sorolla’s wife, Clotilde. It’s a compelling biography that clearly shows she wasn’t just his wife and muse, but the essential business mastermind behind his success by shining a light on this historically overlooked woman.
Although focussed on Clotilde, the book takes us through their lives together in chronological order. How they met through her father, their trips abroad, her organizing exhibitions in Paris, London and America, her caring for him at the end and preserving his legacy.
It’s a story that covers both joyful triumphs and dark family tragedies, a narrative about love and absolute devotion.
